Cookie Policy

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that websites place on your device to remember a session, a language choice or a referral source. They cannot read files on your computer, cannot run programs and cannot access the camera or the microphone. The browser decides when they expire and when they are deleted. Modern browsers also separate cookies set by the site you are visiting from cookies set by other sites that have content embedded on the page, which lets you block third-party trackers independently of the ones that make the site itself work.

Which we use

We set a single first-party cookie that remembers whether you have accepted the cookie notice and your language choice. A short-lived analytics cookie counts the first page view of a session so we can tell new readers from returning ones. No cookie we set carries personal identifiers. We do not run advertising cookies, we do not integrate third-party retargeting pixels, and we do not share cookie values with external marketing networks.

Changes

If we add or remove a cookie, this page is updated and the cookie banner reappears so you can review and reconfirm your preferences. We do not deploy new tracking tools silently. Changes are logged with the date so returning readers can see what moved and when. If regulators in your home jurisdiction require stricter consent — for example, pre-ticked boxes are banned in the European Union — our banner will adapt automatically based on the IP country of the request.

How to manage

Every major browser offers controls for blocking, deleting and inspecting cookies. In Chrome and Edge the controls are under Settings → Privacy and security; in Firefox under Settings → Privacy; in Safari under Preferences → Privacy. You can block all third-party cookies without breaking the site. If you clear cookies on a schedule, the banner may reappear more often, since the file that records your previous choice gets wiped along with everything else.

Retention

The language-choice cookie lasts twelve months. The cookie-notice cookie lasts six months. Analytics session cookies last twenty-four hours. Nothing we store is kept beyond those windows; after that your browser deletes them automatically on your next visit. If you want to shorten these windows further, you can set the browser to purge cookies at the end of every session, and the site will still work exactly as expected.
